Visit to Medicinal Plants Nursery - Thandarai

I along with my parents planned a trip to the heritage centre of Medicinal Plants Nursery in Thandarai which is maintained by Irula Tribal Women’s Welfare Society. On that day I was so tired and started the trip with bad mood. We crossed Pallikarnai but we couldn’t get inside it to take photographs. We got details that the area is located after Chengalpet. When Krishna anna and I heard it, we planned to go to the Lake of Chengalpet or Kolavai lake. We did what we need. We thought that there might be a good passage to reach the lake but there was none.  We crossed a railway track to reach. When we saw that thing there was a crowd of people, one side we saw a fisherman and the other side we noticed some smoke is coming from a huge building.  We capture the scenes with our cameras. But there was a secret in the lake, I think so, because all the photos we got were shaky but because of our patience we got it. My mother and father were waited for us in the middle of the railway track. We returned to our car. We decided not to stop anywhere but a place attracted us. There we were chasing the fast and furious ones. They were our talking birds Parrots. We had been watching the tree silently but there came a chaos between the groups by the dark coloured crows.

We had our breakfast in Chengalpet. Atlast we reached the destination, Medicinal Plant Nursery in Thandarai.  First we were scared to enter the area because it looked like a big dense forest. We went there little earlier and we waited for the staffs to come.

There we saw an old lady named Ms.Lakshmi. First I thought that she was the person who stayed there. After some time she was talking to us .She said who she was. She was the tribal doctor by practice. She told that she can treat persons who had been bitten by snakes and also she said that the job was not easy. She asked a man who came there to accompany us into the nursery. Always a person will accompany to the way to nursery as movement of snakes were often seen there. Suddenly he disappeared. We were scares of the snakes.

We were confused with the path where to go as it had lot of deviation. It was like a maze. Atlast we reached the place marching and stamping our foot and shouting to create sounds on our path. .

We saw a well maintained medicinal plant nursery. My mother was involved with her professional work.

In the mean time , I, Appa and Krishna anna started exploring the area with our lens.

We can tell the area as “Macros area” which means the area is full of insects, butterflies, etc. It is a good place to increase our skills in macro photography. First we got the muddy frog which was living in a small pond which measure 15cm. we spent about 30 minutes in search of the insects.

When we came back we saw an lady called as Ms.Meena who was the assistant of the old lady. She talked about the various medicines there and how they are processing. She also talked about the Ayurvedic Massage Centre there. We also came to know that the old lady has got award from our Chief Minister.

We purchased some herbal medicines and we got to get out from the heritage centre. The lady stopped us and told us to visit the snake temple inside the forest. We went there and it was a thrilling experience. We find snake Gods and the people there were worshipping the God as their mother.

Finally we bid good bye to them and walked to our car and returned to busy Chennai. My mind took little time to merge myself to Chennai life from the calm, pleasant and thrilling Thandarai Life.
